A note about the AI-assisted images used in this campaign I’ve seen some concerns about the presentation images used for the Fantasy Vault, so I’d like to explain exactly what they are and how I’ve used AI in producing them. I’m a full-time, one-person miniature business, with 35 years of miniature-painting experience. I would genuinely love to print and hand-paint every miniature I sculpt—and I still paint physical miniatures whenever time permits—but the Fantasy Vault alone contains 140 miniatures. Painting that collection to my usual display standard, alongside sculpting, fulfilment, customer support and running the rest of the business, would require an enormous amount of time. At the same time, experience has shown me that customers respond much more strongly to miniatures presented in colour than to plain grey renders. I therefore decided to use AI-assisted colour visualisations for this particular campaign. Every image begins with a render of a miniature that I designed and sculpted myself. Examples of my own traditionally painted miniatures were supplied as visual references, alongside detailed instructions describing my preferred painting and presentation style. The AI was then used to create an illustrative painted treatment of the render—not to design the miniature or produce the underlying STL file. For complete clarity, these images are visualisations, not photographs of physically printed and hand-painted miniatures. No bespoke AI model was trained on my work, and AI can occasionally interpret a small detail imperfectly despite being instructed to preserve the original sculpt. The original sculpt and STL file are always the definitive product. I understand the wider concerns surrounding generative AI, particularly when it is used to imitate artists or replace commissioned creative work. In this case, I’ve tried to establish a reasonable middle ground: the creative product remains my own sculpting, while AI helps me present a very large collection in colour without pretending that I personally hand-painted 140 models for the campaign. I will continue showing traditionally painted miniatures wherever possible, and I’ll identify AI-assisted visualisations clearly so customers understand exactly what they are seeing.
