Grandad's Greenhouse

Grandad sits in his greenhouse, sowing tiny tomato seeds. I run up gleefully, he sits me on his lap with his arms wrapped warmly around me. Sprinkling seeds in my palm, he gestures for me to sow some too. We water and nurture the seeds together, watching them sprout to seedlings, stems, and plump fruit over the days, weeks and months. We measure the shoots each day on a wooden rule. All in the warmth of his glass greenhouse. From green to yellow to red, the colours turn. We harvest the ripe tomatoes, excited to share them with family. The wisdom of sowing and growing is rooted within me. It’s incredible what love, time and patience can do.
