First introduced in 1981, the ENSIGN was originally designed for runners competing in the New York Marathon. At a time when the industry was increasingly focused on new technological materials, founder Norman Walsh chose to remain true to his “less is more” design philosophy, taking a purer approach to performance running footwear. The classic lugged outsole, thick wedge-shaped midsole and lightweight upper come together to deliver outstanding comfort, stability and durability. With its simple yet highly effective design, the ENSIGN was not only a performance shoe of its time, but has also become one of the most iconic silhouettes in WALSH’s history.
