Botanical Name: Amaranthus caudatus Lifecycle: Annual Heritage: pre 1900's ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ Amaranth is an old fashioned flower that produces stunning dark red, drooping tassels. Popular for cut flowers and floral arrangements for its unique appearance and as it is long lasting. The flower stalks can be used as an everlasting in dried floral arrangements as it retains its colour well. Pinch out when 30cm tall to encourage branching and more usable stems. Ideal for garden borders, and in containers. Easy to grow and great for attracting pollinators and other beneficial insects to your garden. SOWING: Spring – Early Autumn Sow Direct, or Transplant Amaranth seeds are best sown in spring to early autumn. Seeds can be sown in trays for transplanting, or directly in place approx. 30 cm apart when soil temperatures are between 18°c – 25°c. 18°c - 25°c 7 - 14 days Transplant seedlings in clumps to a final spacing of approx. 30cm - 40cm apart once plants have some true leaves. 30cm - 40cm 70 - 100 days Tender TIPS: It can happily be sown direct however sowing into trays and then transplanting seedlings into the garden can lead more success from these fine seeds.
