Discovery Apples

Grown by Foxendown Fruit Farm in Kent, the first apples of the British season. Discovery is the variety that opens August, and it does not keep, which is exactly why you should be excited. Crisp, sharp, with a strawberry blush running under the skin and into the flesh. Nothing like the year-old fruit sitting in cold storage. Eat them straight from the bowl, cold, in two or three bites. If you have a glut, quarter them into a pan with a splash of water and a strip of lemon peel and cook them down to a rough sauce. Great with yoghurt in the morning.
