Mayco® Clay Mender
NOTE: This is for in-studio purchases only. Please do not order these tools if you are not a member of The Clay Hole. We do not ship. For when your handle pops off, your little attachment betrays you, or your piece develops one of those tiny cracks that makes you stare at the ceiling and question every life choice that brought you to pottery. Mayco Clay Mender is an enhanced slip made to help repair, fuse, and reattach clay pieces on greenware or bisque. It is stronger than regular slip and especially helpful for small repairs, attachments, and minor clay defects before firing. Use it for things like: Small cracks Loose handles Attachments that need extra help Greenware repairs Some bisque repairs Tiny “please don’t make me remake this” emergencies To use, lightly moisten the area, score where needed, apply a generous amount of Clay Mender, press the pieces together firmly, then let it dry completely. Once dry, the repaired area can be gently sanded or smoothed before decorating. A few honest pottery truths, because clay likes to keep us humble: This is not magic. It will not save every broken piece. It works best on smaller repairs, and it is especially useful on greenware. Hairline cracks can still be tricky, and big structural repairs are always a gamble. Clay Mender may show slightly different than your clay body, and glaze may behave a little differently over the repaired area. If needed, a little underglaze over the repair can help even things out. Please ask a staff member before using this on anything you plan to put through The Clay Hole firing schedule, especially if your piece will be fired hotter than low-fire temperatures. Basically, it is one of those little studio lifesavers you will be very glad you have the moment something pops off at the worst possible time.
