2024 Picardy Pinot Noir (NEW)

Tasting note by Ray Jordan, WA Wine Review: "The key with this wine is it's made from 11 selected clones, nine of which are from Dijon. It's a marvellous example of pinots that the Pannells are producing these days. Savoury, chalky, faintly mushroom characters on the nose. Then a palate that is brilliant, bright, with an almost lustrousness about it. Lovely red fruits of cherry and strawberry providing the flesh, but then there is a fine linear core that gives it the structural integrity that good pinots need. This is a classy wine." ........................................................... Tasting note by Shanteh Wale: The 2024 vintage shows off the bright red cherries and pomegranate with a tobacco leaf and autumnal forest floor element. Oyster mushroom, crackling tree bark and damp soil. Some sappy tannins that sit upfront, elevated acidity, this takes you on a ride from early harvest in the vineyard and into the warmer surrounding of the winery. Oak sounds a little louder with some caraway and poppy seed, making this a wine for richer style stews and braised beef. ............................................................. The first wine produced at Picardy was the 1996 Pinot Noir. Picardy Pinots exhibit finesse and complexity, inspired by the great Pinot Noir wines of the old world. Since the first vintage in 1996, an increase in new clonal plantings and an advance in vine age has resulted in wines of greater texture, structure and complexity. Picardy Pinot Noir consists of 11 clones: upright, droopy (existing clones in Australia) and clones 114, 115 and 777 (which are special selections from the University of Dijon) as well as 6 new clones imported from Burgundy. It took 21 years - from the time Bill supervised the sourcing of these clones - until the last one was finally delivered to Picardy from quarantine in 2011. * Please select any mix of 6, 12, 18, 24 etc… bottles as we can only ship orders rounded to the nearest 6 pack.
