Organized Konfusion
Queens duo Organized Konfusion pushed hip-hop into stranger, more cerebral territory with their self-titled 1991 debut. Pharoahe Monch and Prince Po tear through chaotic drum breaks with dense wordplay, vivid storytelling and constantly shifting flows, moving from playful observations to social commentary and surreal imagery. Hugely influential on the underground rap that followed, it established Monch and Po as two formidable lyricists and remains a dazzling snapshot of early-'90s hip-hop at its most adventurous.
