A huge old cut Sapphire & Diamond Crescent! In 18 carat and sterling silver, this wonderful brooch has been dipped in celestial moon glow (read; has been electroplated with platinum!) I love finding jewels that have been electroplated, as they tell a story of a previous owners discerning taste… One of the many reasons that an antique jewel has survived is because enough educated handlers believed it deserved to escape the fond; or custodians made minor modifications! Platinum plating is one such upgrade that I will always buy for. In London, I have often come across celestial jewelry that has undergone this spa treatment, and I find English need for heavenly bodies to glow when rendered and diamond, corundum or other precious substance to be a most charming trait.
