Pure Blue Japan 14oz XX-019 Relaxed Tapered Jeans

Every brand has one fabric it is known for. For Pure Blue Japan it is the XX: the 14oz slub selvedge denim that has been the brand's signature since the early 2000s and the reason it built a following far beyond Okayama. The yarn is the point — Pure Blue Japan's own slub threads, spun with deliberate irregularities in thickness, then woven on vintage shuttle looms at ultra-low tension so the unevenness stays in the cloth. The surface comes out rough, slubby and hairy in a way conventional spinning cannot reproduce, and the weavers stand behind it completely. The fabric is dyed with a pure indigo warp over a white weft, and it fades the way XX has always faded: as the denim is worn in, the slub catches the wear first and fading spots appear across the surface, building a high-contrast character that rewards patience and daily use. It comes unsanforized and one-washed, so the sizing is settled and no further shrinkage is expected. The 019 is Pure Blue Japan's relaxed tapered: a mid-high rise (10.8" at the front on a 32), generous room through the seat and thigh, and a strong taper from the knee to a narrow 6.7" leg opening. It carries the comfort of a roomy top block and resolves it into a clean line at the ankle — a natural fit for boots or sneakers alike. Details hold to the brand's standard: custom iron buttons on a button fly, hidden copper rivets on the back pockets, raised belt loops, heavy-duty bar tacks, long stitching and a chain-stitched hem. The front pockets are lined in durable cotton, the coin pocket shows a peek-a-boo selvedge edge, and the blue selvedge ID sits at the outseam. The indigofera leaf embroidery on the back pocket and a lambskin leather patch finish it. 100% cotton. Made in Japan. Fit Notes: These jeans run a bit small compared to most global American brands: the waist measures at or just under the tagged size. We recommend going one size up from your usual size, or taking your usual size only if you want a snug fit from day one. The 019 is a relaxed tapered with a mid-high rise. The denim is unsanforized and one-washed, so no further shrinkage is expected, and it stretches at the waist with wear (up to 1"). We don't recommend sizing down, as starting too tight may cause discomfort and alter the intended fit of the garment.
