Vintage Carlos Götz Akha Dolls Pair (1991)
A beautiful pair of 1991 Carlos Götz Akha dolls, designed by renowned doll artist Carin Lossnitzer and produced by Götz as part of the World Novelty Series. Representing children of the Akha people of Northern Thailand and neighbouring regions of Southeast Asia, these dolls feature richly detailed traditional costumes with colourful textiles, beadwork, metallic embellishments and decorative headdresses. The costumes were originally handmade by women of the Akha tribe, giving the dolls a level of craftsmanship rarely seen in modern production dolls. Produced as a limited-edition release of just 1,000 pieces worldwide per doll, these expressive soft-bodied dolls make striking display pieces for collectors of folk art, cultural collectables, vintage dolls and sculptural décor. One doll appears to correspond with the Walaja model from the 1991 World Novelty Series. The second doll is believed to be from the same Carlos Götz tribal doll programme, although exact model identification has not been confirmed.
