Narrative Jewelry with Annie Pennington!
This workshop is being held live and in-person at our Texas studio! Can't make the trip? Live online seats will be available at this link! If you have ever wanted to tell a story with your jewelry, this is the workshop for you! We're delighted to be welcoming our good friend Annie Pennington to the studio for the very first time, and she's bringing a whole toolbox of cool jewelry-making techniques with her! Over three days, Annie will guide us through the creation of a shadowbox pendant. We'll learn how to construct a frame for our mini scenes, multiple ways to create 3D objects and recognizable shapes to help tell a story, tips and workflow suggestions for how to layer, rivet, and solder multiple components into the frame, and more! There will also be opportunities to use up some of our silver scrap and work with mixed metals. And while a hydraulic press with shot plates and a rolling mill are helpful, they’re not necessary - Annie has planned multiple options for making the pendant, and will be sharing a variety of tips and skills, including: Sweat soldering Texturing metal sheet and wire both with and without a rolling mill Carving and shaping metal into recognizable shapes both with and without a hydraulic press Sawing/piercing/filing/sanding tips and tricks Riveting, making custom riveting support tools to fit into tight spaces Patinas and patina removal options Mixing metals Bail fabrication + more! This is an intermediate to advanced skills workshop, and students must have solid foundational fabrication skills including soldering, sawing, filing, and finishing. Absolutely everything necessary to complete the project is provided in this workshop – all tools, materials, and equipment! Bring a pen and notebook for note-taking and eye magnification if required, but otherwise just come and have fun! PLUS: The entire workshop will be recorded in close-up high definition video, and all students receive 30 days access to the recordings on our virtual learning platform at no additional cost! A special word about materials fees in 2026: The cost of silver is extremely volatile and higher than we have ever seen it. Accordingly, materials fees will not be posted until two to three weeks before the workshop date, based on the then-spot price of silver. Where possible, we will make use of alternative metals to keep costs down. Information about taking workshops with us can be found at this link. Workshop fee (non-taxable): $585 Materials fee (taxable): TBD (taxable and payable in the workshop) Friday - Sunday September 18 - 20, 2026 9:30 am to 5:00 pm (central) daily
