“Son of Solomon” By Dominique Tull 24 x 30 Acrylic
This piece is a continuation of the ANCESTORS series pointing more closely to my Caribbean roots. Here I depicted a Rastafarian elder, exuding unwavering wisdom and a seriousness that I could always see in the eyes of my father. Take note to the wrinkled skin and placement of highlights in the colors “Ites”(Red), Green and Gold. Ites = The Blood we’ve shed Green = Lucious Land of Africa Gold = The Wealth of Africa The start of David placed on his forehead represents the link to the lineage of King David, Solomon and his son Menelik. These stories are told in what some call the lost book of the Bible - The Kebra Nagast, which frames Ethiopia as the continuation of Biblical Israel. Much of the spirit of Caribbean culture is one of life and liberation. Let us take this energy in this day and age of continued colonial chaos.
