Rings made from smoothly polished cow horn. These rings can of course be used as jewelry, but we would also like to recommend these especially as 'mahaka'. The mahaka is a traditional Tibetan amulet, with a history dating back at least 20.000 years. Nomadic hunters wore rings from animal tibia bones on their fingers for a better grip on their spears and bows, resulting in more accurate aiming and thus more productive hunting. Over time this led to the bone rings being considered a talisman for good luck. From there, the usage of the bone rings also developed further into a tool for shamanic work. In traditional shamanism, bone rings are used for protection against evil spirits and as (temporary) traps and portals to catch and/or transport those spirits. The evil spirits are said not to be able to go through such a ring and thus get trapped in them. To make these bone rings, the (tibia) bones from all different kinds of animals are used, and in the higlands of Tibet also the bones from humans, acquired after sky burials. These rings here in our webshop have been made of cow horn, and will also be perfect to use as mahaka. They can for example be attached to the shamanic costume or on suitable ritual attributes. Being from all natural origin, of course the rings vary slightly in appearance. The colors range from light beige to light brown, with some darker spots here and there. The sizes vary between 25-29 millimeters at the outside diameter, and between 20-23 millimeters at the inside diameter. Multiple ones available, sold per piece. Handpicked at random.
