Crescent sideboard
Dylan designed and crafted this sideboard for the 2006 Celebration of Craftsmanship and Design exhibition in Cheltenham, where it was sold on the opening day. Its success led to a later commission to recreate the same piece for another client. Made from locally sourced, sustainable oak, the sideboard features a chestnut back and hand-turned oak handle. The design balances practicality and elegance, offering a flat top and three-door configuration, with the gentle sweep of steam-bent sides. A subtle curve is cut into the bottom plinth, echoing and complementing the flowing lines throughout the piece. This sense of movement continues in the shaped top rail and the corresponding curves in both the upper and lower door rails. The doors are crafted using book-matched panels in distinctive “cat’s paw” oak, adding visual interest and character. Traditional mortice and tenon joints, secured with pegs, ensure lasting strength and integrity, allowing the piece to stand the test of time. The table is finished with linseed oil and a homemade oil-wax blend, created using beeswax sourced from the smallholding where the workshop is based, giving the piece a warm look. Customers are encouraged to be involved in the design of their commissioned piece and also, where possible, to come to the workshop to choose their timber. Dimensions 166cm long 75cm high 52cm deep
