Attr. Johann Heinrich Ramberg 1763-1840. Charming double portrait watercolour drawing. A fashionable couple in a garden. Circa.1785. 19.7 by 14.7cms. Ramberg was born at Hannover. His work came to the attention of King George 3rd of Great Britain (also Elector of Hannover) who encouraged Ramberg to come to London, where he provided support. Ramberg may have been a student of Sir Joshua Reynolds and Francesco Bartolozzi, he studied under Sir Benjamin West at the Royal Academy Schools and in 1782 he began exhibiting at the Royal Academy. In 1784 Ramberg drew the exhibition itself, showing Reynolds, The Prince of Wales and other notables the engraving of which serves as a valuable record of London artistic scene of the late 18th.Century.
