Formed through a HYBE x Geffen experiment designed to globalize the K-pop system, Katseye had already introduced themselves with precision on SIS (Soft Is Strong). But Beautiful Chaos is where things start to fracture—in a good way, and sometimes not. Written and recorded amid a whirlwind rise that included viral hits, festival bookings, and mounting expectations, the project captures a group in transition: no longer rookies, not yet fully formed, and acutely aware of the spotlight tightening around them. Sonically, the EP refuses to sit still. The opening salvo, “Gnarly,” is a hyperpop sugar rush—abrasive, bratty, and intentionally excessive—while “Gabriela” slides into Latin-pop territory, complete with Spanish-language flourishes and a co-writing credit from Charli XCX. Elsewhere, “Gameboy” leans glossy and nostalgic, “Mean Girls” dips into contemporary R&B introspection, and “M.I.A.” closes things out in a haze of electro-pop euphoria. The result is a record that thrives on contrast: sweet and sour, synthetic and sincere, chaotic but calculated.
