The red door „The Red Door“ is Philipp Johann Thimm second solo album. He’s actually everything but as a solo artist. The Berlin producer, musician and multi instrumentalist, looks back on a illustrious list of projects, performances, tours, and releases which he worked on with many different artists. The most prominent of his collaborations are are the projects he worked together with Sascha Ring a.k.a. Apparat. But we’ll get to that later. For now back to „The Red Door“. What does this mean? Does this mark a new beginning? Does this highlight the next phase in his music? Does it invite you to enter closed doors? Or does this mean a new world? Fact is: the worol of Philipp Johann Thimm is dense – lively, together and in community. Almost all projects that he takes on. the main concepts are near us trust and a big chosen family. To go on tour with him means to meet friends and musical colleagues. From the beginning this network of people has been carrying him. Just like the band members, Abby and ensembles and with bands he works with. This is also is reflected in his work of the „The Red Door“. For example, his synergy with drummer Joda Förster, who actually is a reoccurring Person in many of his Projects (like‚ „A Hum Of Maybe“ Apparat 2026). Trust is a returning theme in Thimms work especially the trust in the people who he works with, the trust in the music and the process and the risk of laying it all bear while working on a project together with people. This is audible in the 10 songs of the album, they are complex, move between genres and breakthrough the musical barriers. Club bangers collide with Cello, with Indie and pop embedded in a bed of electronic production originating from an organic element. This becomes really visible on stage: big festivals, long club nights to intimate international concerts. Philipp Johann Thimm is a traveler, probably more backpacker then businessman he is curious, open and a collaborator. The opener Have You Ever funnels all these multiple facets of him together. A euphoric track with clear club energy that is at the simultaneously changes into a Pop Hymn. ‘Have you ever thought of being another…’ a sentence that echoes past the track. KOKA opens the feature series here, born in Albania, raised in Berlin, and classically trained in Athens. Her voice sets the tone of the album, which is familiar yet has an international sound to it. The focus on the track JOYNESS is centered on the identity of the singer JAMAL, and not lose hope in a dark world. Generally, the album circles around the themes of love, consideration and understanding. „The Red Door“ appears like a utopian future chapter and in that creates openness curiosity and togetherness. JAMAL is also featured on the title track On The Rocks it twist and tunrs around its own center. MA CORE is also a highlight in which Thimm collaborated with Raz O’Hara. O’Hara is a long time collaborator of Appart, he is the distinguished unforgettable Voice, audible on Silizium and Walls. An amazing vocalist that gives the album new depths. Thimm was already on tour with mute album ‘The devil walks.’ – and also worked as a Cellist for Christoph Mäckie Hamann on European stages. He’s the co-author and producer of the Apparat band for many albums, such as ‘LP 5‘ and „A Hum Of Maybe“ , as well as many compositions in Film and Theater. For ‘LP 5‘ there was even a Grammy nomination. Following were projects for ARD, WDR, Deutschlandfunk, Deutsche Theater, Berliner Ensemble and audiobooks with Judith Lorentz. This is how complex Thimm’s background is, and that is also the essence of the album. The key lies within his extended musical family. Thimm is a traditional family man As a father classically trained Cellist who came from a musical family. He has a through through team player to which music means collaboration. Writing together producing and experiencing with others. He already has taken on leading roles where he arranges and structures many compositions. He continues this on his solo album where many guest musicians meet with ease. Next to Joda Förster drumming and JAMAL’s charismatic emotional depth. Many artists are featured the songs move between atmospheric and international flare and Berlin´s steadfast beat. Also ASKA from Los Angeles who’s been working with Thimm for many many year , aswell as his close friends Filou and Ela, have created a deep collaborative dialogue with him. This is exemplified in the process in a slow controlled exchange. „The Red Door“ was created between many other projects, a mirror to the modern existence of musicians where the creativity has to be found and space has to be held. This is the energy and strength of the album. It is a steadfast step through the door. A strong statement. Samuel Wiese mixed the album and Mike Grinser from Manmade Mastering mastered it. Publishing was done by yours truly Random Noize Musick. The Berlin Label Monkeytown founded by Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary will release it due to recommendations from Daniel Meteo and Sacha Ring. The fitting hometown club culture meets pop architecture epic moments on electronic fundament to organic depths. To adventure into the album means to open a well sealed package filled with energy, trust, combined vision and to open the red door.
