Horological context Omega was founded in 1848 by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The maison moved to Biel in 1879. In 1894 it released the 19-ligne calibre named Omega — so precise that it gave its name to the manufacture in 1903. By the 20th century, Omega ranked among the great Swiss manufactures: official Olympic timekeeper since 1932, supplier to NASA for the Apollo missions.
