Producing a mere 10 meters of fabric per day, this painstakingly inefficient method gradually faced extinction with the shifting times. Most manufacturers abandoned them in favor of modern high-speed circular knitting machines, leaving only a precious few workshops in existence today. Compounded by the extreme difficulty of maintenance and the near-impossibility of sourcing replacement parts for these antique machines, loopwheel knitting is a vanishing craft. Yet, the reward is unmatched. By spinning ultra-slowly to trap air while minimizing stress on the yarn, it produces a unique softness blended with a resilient bounce and grit that no modern machine can replicate.
