Royal Doulton – Jug – Morrisian Ware, Tudor, Dancing Ladies, D1016
Royal Doulton (England, ) Morrisian Tudor Pitcher D1016, c. 1901-1924 blue and white, glazed, porcelain 7 5/8” high x 7” (spout to handle) / 5” diameter Notes: A sensuous Tudor Morrisian ware water jug of pinched hour glass form decorated with dancing musical ladies bordered by fruiting Arts & Crafts trellis, made by Royal Doulton, c. 1901-1924. The choice of Tudor form for this pattern is evocative of the slender forms of the dancers, their flowing outfits and the undulating scarves and entwined rose border. While not particularly scarce it is a stunning example of why Morrisian Ware was able to so completely capture the public’s attention during the British Arts & Crafts movement. Markings: Royal Doulton; Morrisian Rose Mark; D1016; 7 Condition: Antique, Excellent
