Antique slat trunk (often called a steamer trunk), which was widely popular for travel in the late 19th and early 20th centuries Constructed from solid wood slats with reinforcing iron or steel bands. Features heavy-duty metal drawbolt latches on the sides and a central brass lock mechanism. Flat-top design, which allowed them to be easily stacked on top of one another in the cargo holds of steamships or trains. Secured with prominent industrial metal rivets and protective corner guards. Wood Slats: Typically made of pine, ash, or oak to provide structural strength. Iron or steel hardware held down by heavy rivets. Central brass or iron lock plate with two outer drawbolt latches.
