Avocado - Hellen
Hellen is a classic Californian avocado variety originating in Santa Monica, Los Angeles. It is a vigorous and reliable grower, forming a bushy, spreading tree with a slightly more compact habit than some older varieties. Originally selected for its strong performance under coastal conditions, it has shown good adaptability and consistent production over time. Hellen produces medium to large, pear-shaped fruit with a dark green, leathery skin that peels easily. The flesh is smooth, creamy, and largely fibreless, with a rich flavour and high oil content, often exceeding 20%. The seed is relatively small and sits tightly within the fruit, giving a good proportion of usable flesh. Fruit size can vary, with well-grown trees capable of producing quite large fruit, and the variety is known for its excellent eating quality.
