Season's Greetings from Echo Lake Christmas Shirt

Every December she gets a Santa hat and an ornament in her mouth, and lit ornaments float on the water around her. She has been standing in that lake since the park opened in 1989. Gertie is a tribute inside a tribute. The original was a 1914 silent short by Winsor McCay — the first animated film to feature a dinosaur, twelve minutes long, over ten thousand drawings done by hand. McCay performed it live in vaudeville houses, standing beside the screen giving her commands while she appeared to obey. The building she became is called California Crazy, a 1930s roadside style built to be seen from a moving car. The footprints in the pavement around Echo Lake are hers. She is also, famously, closed a lot. Printed on Comfort Colors garment-dyed cotton in the shirt, and available as a sweatshirt for the part of December that earns one.
