It is particularly useful when installing slate hearths, where a small perimeter gap is left between the back of the hearth and the wall. The silicone is applied into this gap and tooled to a smooth, low-profile finish level with the surface of the hearth, creating a clean and professional finishing detail. Mask – masking tape can be applied along both sides of the joint to help achieve a neat finish. Apply – apply a smooth, continuous bead of Mapesil AC into the expansion gap between the hearth and wall. Finish – tool the silicone down neatly so the finished joint is low profile and level with the hearth surface, then remove masking tape before the sealant skins.
