Woven Memories | Lisa Mori

Textiles hold stories, memories, even the essence of time and place. In this 3-hour workshop with exhibiting artist Lisa Mori transform your treasured fabrics and mementos into a unique handwoven textile piece. For this workshop you are invited to bring a combination of fabrics, clothing, paper and mementos that hold significance to you. You must be willing to deconstruct them by ripping, cutting or shredding into strips. You will then learn weaving techniques to create your own woven memories wall hanging or cloth mat out of the pieces. Members Location: Midland Junction Arts Centre Materials Please bring fabrics, clothing, paper and mementos that you would like to deconstruct and include in your weaving. Some materials and yarns will be provided to supplement what you bring. Frame looms will be provided. If participants don’t finish their weaving looms will be able to be taken home to complete. Artist Bio Lisa Mori is a textile artist living and working on Whadjuk Noongar country. Her work centres on identity and the relationships within natural, cultural and social systems. Using traditional weaving techniques Lisa’s work considers these interconnections through materiality. Her work is featured in the Ravel exhibition currently on at Midland Junction Arts Centre.
