‘Ākala is endemic to Hawai’i and is one of the largest varieties of raspberry in the world. The tart but juicy, bejeweled fruit and pollen are enjoyed by native forest birds such as the Maui parrot bill, or Kiwikiu. These cuties have a stout build and are known to roam in small groups. This is due to their lengthy dependencies on their ‘Ohana during their juvenile periods.
