A juicy and structured Kenyan coffee with a balance of tart fruit and floral sweetness. The coffee cherries are first floated in water to remove damaged, overripe, or lower-quality fruit while also pre-washing the coffee. After careful sorting and cleaning, the cherries are pulped and evenly distributed in fermentation tanks. The coffee undergoes 18–20 hours of dry fermentation, followed by another wash and 24 more hours of fermentation. After a final washing and grading, the coffee is dried on raised beds for 10–14 days. Ngunguru Washing Station is located near Karatina in Nyeri County and is part of the Tekangu Farmers’ Cooperative Society, which also includes the Tegu, Karogoto, and Ngunguru mills. Through Kenya’s cooperative system, member farmers have a voice in how their coffee is processed, marketed, and how profits are distributed. Nyeri is widely regarded as the standout coffee-producing county in central Kenya thanks in part to its deep, iron-rich volcanic soils, which provide excellent fertility, water retention, and drainage.
