Originally released as part of IOD’s 2020 Holiday Collection Limited Release and now returning as an IOD Encore, this beloved Christmas mould is filled with classic winter botanicals including evergreen trees, pinecones, pine boughs, holly, mistletoe, and a beautifully layered poinsettia. With 13 individual casting cavities in a range of sizes, Boughs of Holly gives you everything from tiny botanical accents to a dramatic 5-1/4” evergreen tree. The sculpted surfaces capture remarkable natural detail—from individual pine needles and overlapping pinecone scales to leaf veins, berries, poinsettia petals, and the softly layered branches of the Christmas trees. The variety of sizes makes this mould especially useful for building complete compositions. Create a little forest from the four graduated evergreen trees, layer pine boughs and pinecones into wreaths and swags, add the poinsettia as a focal point, or combine the smaller castings into ornaments, gift toppers, frames, signs, and mixed-media projects. As shown in our project photos, the tree, poinsettia, and holly castings are beautiful on dimensional Christmas ornaments and plaques. A simple neutral finish with dark wax or glaze settles into the sculpted details and gives the castings the appearance of antique plaster, carved wood, or timeworn architectural ornament. Use a single tree as a focal embellishment or combine several sizes to create perspective and depth in a dimensional Christmas scene. Arrange the trees on round or oval blanks for handmade ornaments, layer them into shadow boxes and winter landscapes, or combine them with pinecones and boughs for woodland-style décor. Painting all of the castings in one neutral color and adding dark wax, glaze, or dry brushing emphasizes the sculpted branches and gives the finished piece an aged architectural look. The poinsettia also works beautifully as a stand-alone focal design, while the holly spray, evergreen boughs, mistletoe, and pinecones can be combined into custom wreaths, swags, borders, and botanical compositions. 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: • For IOD Air Dry Clay, press clay firmly into the cavity so fine needles, berries, leaf veins, and pinecone scales are completely filled • Remove excess clay from the back using the Micro-Rim as a guide • Moist clay castings can be released before drying and adhered directly to furniture, plaques, signs, frames, boxes, and other decorative surfaces • Releasing clay while moist allows larger castings to conform more easily to curved surfaces • Air dry clay may shrink, crack, or warp slightly as it dries, which can contribute to an authentically aged appearance • A light dusting of cornstarch or arrowroot can help if clay is sticking • Casting resin is ideal when crisp detail, strength, and consistent dimensions are particularly important • When pouring resin, guide the material into narrow pine needles, branch tips, and detailed leaves to help prevent trapped air • Follow the resin manufacturer’s mixing, working-time, curing, and safety instructions • Use an appropriate adhesive when applying finished castings to decorative surfaces • Paint, glaze, dark wax, dry brushing, metallic wax, gilding, or antiquing can be used to emphasize the deeply sculpted botanical details • Wash with mild soap and water and dry thoroughly before storing • Keep food-use and craft-use moulds separate • Do not use craft-contaminated moulds for edible applications
