A boat, transformed into a floating sanctuary, safely carries figures, animals, and fragments of nature across still waters. Through muted light, restrained palette, and contemplative stillness, the work reflects on refuge as both a place and a state of mind, where rest, companionship, and hope endure amid life's uncertain currents. THE ARTIST Mark Jeffrey R. Santos is a visual artist based in Makati, Philippines, whose work explores the delicate balance between urban life and the tranquility of nature. Born and raised in the city, he constantly yearns for the peace that nature offers, and his art seeks to bring that serenity into the fast-paced world around him. His paintings are a fusion of real-life references, personal experiences, and his vivid imagination. Santos creates landscapes that evoke both realism and dream-like qualities. Through subtle shifts in light and value, he imbues his works with a sense of quietness and stillness, inviting the viewer to pause and reflect. For Santos, the act of painting is a way to slow down and experience a moment of calm amidst the noise of daily life. His use of soft transitions between light and shadow becomes a vehicle for tranquility, offering a space of refuge and introspection. In every piece, he aims to create an atmosphere that allows both himself and his audience to find solace and peace, reminding them of the quiet beauty that exists within the landscape, even in the most unexpected of places.
