GLEN ELGIN 13 YEAR, PINEAU BARRIQUE Little Brown Dog · Single Cask Speyside Malt · Grasshoppers on the Label Region Speyside Style Single Malt Age 13 years ABV 56.2% Cask Pineau des Charentes Barrique Bottler Little Brown Dog Glen Elgin is a distillate Little Brown Dog enjoy coming back to. It asks for a more delicate approach despite the worm tub condensation, and in their words you have to be careful with wood to really display it at its best. This is a fairly special expression of a workhorse distillery: thirteen years in a single refill Pineau des Charentes barrique, the cask that once held the Charentes region's cognac-and-grape-must aperitif. Wonderful texture and great balance, presented using a less common cask type. Filled 6 March 2013, bottled 22 July 2026 at 56.2% cask strength. Just 265 bottles, natural colour, non-chill filtered. Imported by The Whiskey Lab. About Little Brown Dog Little Brown Dog Spirits is an Aberdeenshire independent bottler and micro-distillery, founded in 2018 by Andrew Smith (a vet) and Chris Reid (a farmer) and run from the farm at Fetternear. Their motto is "traditionally unconventional": radical transparency about what is in the bottle, a story behind every label, and a healthy obsession with dogs and old cars. The team is Andrew, Chris and designer Alex. LBD is already on the shelf at The Whiskey Lab, including their Aberdeenshire Single Malt core expression. This is one of their August 2026 releases, fresh across the Atlantic. Distillery profile, Glen Elgin Built between 1898 and 1900 at the tail end of the Victorian whisky boom, in the heart of Speyside near Elgin. Still condenses its spirit through old-fashioned worm tubs, which give a heavier, more textured new make than modern condensers. For most of its life its malt has disappeared into blends, most famously as a backbone of White Horse, so independent single casks are a treat. LBD call it a workhorse distillery that turns fairly special when the wood is chosen carefully, and this refill barrique let the spirit lead. The grasshopper label, in LBD's own words The label is of meadows and a grasshopper. As a teen, Andrew was sent off to a tiny wee village in the Charentes region of France for a summer with his brother, staying with distant relatives to improve their French and keep their Grandmother happy. The improvement in French was pretty dubious, but the two younger brothers did get a taste for the local aperitif, Pineau, and spent a lot of time trying to catch grasshoppers on hot days in the meadows that surrounded the vines. The family there thought it pretty normal for younger teens to drink wine with meals, but really questioned Andrew drinking coffee at such a young age. LBD admit they are a sentimental bunch at times, and this wee dram transported them straight back to Charentes and those grasshoppers. That is the reason for the label.
