Double-Bell Euphonium.
The sweeping curves and intricate valves of a double-bell euphonium, made by C.G. Conn in the 1940s. The Art Deco influence can be seen in the instrument’s finer details, particularly in its joins and welds. This rare instrument features two bells. The large bell produces the rich, mellow tone traditionally associated with the euphonium, while the smaller bell offers a brighter sound. This contrast can be used to striking effect, particularly in the upper register and in call-and-response passages. Many thanks to Ben Anderson of Orchestra Victoria for the loan of this intriguing instrument.
