Purple kingfisher

Perched on its wooden stand, this purple kingfisher creates an almost unreal palette. Its head is violet, with a white patch on its throat, a bright orange-yellow belly and chest, and blue-black wings dotted with blue spots. Its thin, orange beak completes this vibrant silhouette. This small bird lives in the shade of the foliage, near streams where it hunts insects and small fish. Rarely observed in its natural environment, it rivals in brilliance the tropical butterflies and flowers that share its habitat.
