Istine, Vigna Mezzapiaggia Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2022

Variety: Sangiovese Though this a fairly recent project based in Radda in Chianti, Istine’s reputation has quickly risen to the top of the Sangiovese playing field. With rave write-ups in the New York Times, Wine Spectator, and Forbes, winemaker Angela Fronti is proving she has what it takes in a region historically dominated by patrimonial lineage. Angela, who comes from a long line of peasant farmers, left Tuscany to study enology but ultimately decided to return and put down roots in Radda. With some of the highest elevation holdings in the commune, she farms multiple plots of land creating Cru Level Chianti with a precision rarely seen at this price point. Without a doubt a producer to watch. 100% Sangiovese from a two-hectare vineyard in Vagliagli, farmed organically. Fermented in concrete with approximately 45 days of maceration, then aged 15 months in 20-hectoliter Austrian oak followed by bottle aging.
