Alpine 2nd-Gen R-Series Subwoofer Alpine R2-W12D2 12 Inch Subwoofer 750 watts RMS and 20 mm of Xmax from Alpine's second-generation R-Series 12. Larger double-stacked magnets, 144 ounces of them, give the R2-W12D2 more motor force than the previous R-Series, and its low Qts makes it equally at home sealed or ported. Dual 2 ohm coils with configuration jumpers. 750W RMS 20 mm Xmax Sealed or Ported Dual 2 Ohm A Bigger Motor for the R-Series The 2nd-gen R2 uses larger, double-stacked magnets for more motor force, with an integrated Faraday ring to cut distortion. The cone is Kevlar-reinforced pulp, the dust cap is a polypropylene and ceramic composite that is stiff but well damped, and Alpine's High Amplitude Multi-Roll (HAMR) rubber surround allows 20 mm of linear excursion and 72 mm of total mechanical travel while staying cool. It carries a 65.5 mm (2.6 inch) voice coil and push-type terminals that take up to 8 AWG wire. A cosmetic trim ring comes in the box, and Alpine's EZ-Change twist-lock mount takes the optional KTE-12G grille without screws. Wiring the Dual 2 Ohm Coils One woofer: coils in parallel give a 1 ohm load, coils in series give 4 ohms. Alpine includes two jumper wires for either setup. Two woofers: wire each in series to 4 ohms and parallel the pair for a 2 ohm load. Alpine rates the R2-W12D2 at 750 watts RMS and 2250 watts peak, with a recommended amplifier range of 300 to 750 watts RMS. Alpine's Recommended Boxes With a Qts of 0.41, the R2-W12D2 works in both sealed and vented enclosures. These are Alpine's own figures for the D2. Enclosures We Cut for the R2-W12 We build Proline X cabinets for this driver in Tullahoma, Tennessee, with its 10-7/8 inch cutout and 6-1/2 inch mounting depth cut direct fit: Sealed 12 inch wedge, 0.75 cubic feet net, Alpine's recommended sealed volume.
