Shizuoka Prologue W Single Malt Japanese Whisky (700ml)

DESCRIPTION: The Shizuoka Prologue W sibling to the earlier Shizuoka Prologue K. What sets it apart starts at the still. This bottling comes off a wood-fired, directly heated pot still built by Forsyth's, believed to be one of a kind anywhere in the world. Local woodcutters supply thinly split conifer from the forests around the distillery to keep the flames going. Where an indirectly heated still sits at roughly 150°C, direct-fire distillation can push temperatures as high as 800°C. Far more intense, hands-on way of making spirit. The recipe pulls from three different barleys: Japanese malt, Scottish malt (both peated and unpeated), and German beer malt. After distillation, the whisky spent three years maturing across 31 casks in total. A mix of first-fill bourbon barrels, first-fill bourbon quarter casks, and virgin American oak.
