A rare exhibition catalogue published by the Kyoto Costume Institute (KCI) to accompany the 1999 landmark exhibition Visions of the Body: Fashion or Invisible Corset at the National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto, in conjunction with the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo. The catalogue acts as an academic extension of the gallery experience. Bringing together history of dress and avant-garde design, the pages traverse and explore the 'fragile body' of the modern age and how fashion acts as a second skin, or 'invisible corset' that transforms, reshapes and redefines the human silhouette.
