Griselinia littoralis 'Variegata'

Griselinia littoralis 'Variegata' does the same useful job as standard griselinia, but with cream-edged leaves that brighten a hedge line and stop it looking heavy. It’s excellent for screening in a sunny or lightly shaded garden, especially where the boundary needs to look smart year-round. Griselinia littoralis 'Variegata' grows into a rounded, medium-to-large evergreen shrub that takes well to regular clipping, making it a very good evergreen hedge. In borders, it also works as a light-reflecting backdrop for flowering shrubs and perennials, and the variegation looks particularly crisp next to darker greens. If you’re building structure in an informal garden, it’s a practical choice with a bit more sparkle. Grow it in sun or semi shade in chalky, loamy or sandy soil, and it’s comfortable in acidic, neutral or alkaline conditions. Very hardy and adaptable, it can cope with both exposed and sheltered positions once established. Clip once or twice a year to keep it dense and even, and avoid cutting back into bare wood if you want the quickest recovery.
