Astrophytum myriostigma Variegated

A spineless cultivar prized for its striking geometric shape and random marbled patterns of yellow, orange and red against a green epidermis. This striking visual contrast is caused by a genetic mutation that results in a partial lack of chlorophyll. Its solitary, globular stem slowly elongates into a cylinder with 3 to 8 prominent, deep vertical ribs. A cross-section reveals a perfect star-like silhouette. Mature specimens (usually 6+ years old) produce satin-textured, glossy yellow, funnel-shaped flowers out of the top apex during warm spring and summer months.
