Razor Specifics: Age Range: Circa Mid-1800s Restoration: Fully restored: The near wedge blade was reground by us to remove all pitting and wear and correct geometry, fully polished and cleaned, fitted with the newly made horn scales, repinned and finally honed to a super keen and pleasant shaving edge Blade Material: Sheffield Crucible Steel (carbon steel) Width: 1" wide from edge to top of spine at the widest point Grind: Near wedge Hone Wear: None at all, careful regrinding has left the blade with no hone wear and a thin, even bevel at the edge Tip: Square Finishes: Crocus (mirror) finish all over the blade Condition: Lovely, scattered minor blemishes (patina) remaining in the steel, commensurate with its age Shave ready: Yes, freshly honed and stropped and sanitized, fully ready to shave Scales Material: Blonde with white cattle horn, mammoth ivory spacer wedge Pinning: Brass pins and extra large beehive style washers Condition: Glossy, highly polished, just very minor flaws, the blade is held tightly and centers well between them About our restoration and honing process Each one of our restored razors is brought back to life with a passion and attention to detail like it would be an addition to our own collection or user rotation. Many years of restoration experience and hundreds of restored razors sold around the world have refined our processes, but each razor is still given the time and individual attention it needs. Our vintage razors undergo dozens of steps involving blade unpinning (where necessarily) metal grinding/sanding with a range of different diameter and hardness wheels with various grits of abrasive and polishes. Scales are straightened and repaired when necessary, wet sanded and polishing. After the razor’s cosmetic and functional repairs are completed, a multistep honing process using a range of synthetic and natural sharpening stones is used to bring each razor back to keen and comfortable shaving sharpness. Finally stropping is performed on one of our cordovan leather strops and the blade is sanitized in Barbicide hospital-grade disinfectant.
