A full groom usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your dog's size and how the coat's travelling. Matted or heavily overgrown coats take a little longer. Why a regular groom matters A coat that gets clipped on a schedule is a comfortable coat. Left too long it tangles, traps heat and holds moisture against the skin, which on the Gold Coast in summer is a fast track to hot spots and that classic doggy smell. A full groom every 6 to 8 weeks keeps the coat short, the skin happy and the loose hair off your couch. It's also the easiest groom on your dog. No drawn-out scissor session, no fussy styling, just in, clean, clipped and home. Nervous dogs and wrigglers tend to do best with a full groom for exactly that reason. A note on matting. If the coat's pelted or badly matted, a full body clip sometimes has to go shorter than you'd planned. That's a welfare call, not a shortcut. We don't pull on tight mats or brush them out painfully, we clip under them cleanly and the coat grows back better for it. Tell us at booking if you've noticed any matting so we can plan the time. Frequently asked questions What's the difference between a Full Groom and a Style Groom? A Full Groom is an even clip with no breed-specific styling. Quick, neat and comfortable. A Style Groom adds scissor work and breed-correct trimming for coats that need a particular look, think Schnauzers, Spoodles and Cocker Spaniels. If you're after a specific breed cut, book a Style Groom. How often should I book one? Every 6 to 8 weeks suits most clipped coats. Stretch it out with a brush at home and the odd maintenance wash in between. Can I choose the clip length? Yes. Tell us at drop off. Shorter clips are popular through the Gold Coast summer, but we'll talk you through what actually suits your dog's coat. My dog has sensitive skin. Is that a problem? Not at all. Let us know at booking and we'll switch to a sensitive-skin or medicated shampoo. What products do you use?
