Grade 1 Band - AIBF Edmonton

20 Minute performance time and 20 Minute associated clinic session (maximum time including transition from performance to clinic of 45 minutes). Grade 1 (Easy) Description: Designed for students in their first or second year of playing. Slightly more complex than Grade 0.5, but still very accessible. Music may include simple harmonies, more rhythmic variety, and slightly expanded ranges. It introduces basic dynamic contrasts and articulation. Typical Characteristics: Expanded range, simple melodies with more independent lines, basic articulations like staccato or legato. Grade 1.5 (Easy-Medium) Description: This level is for students who have a little more experience, usually second-year players. Music begins to introduce more varied rhythms, limited syncopation, and more independent part writing. There may be simple key changes and more expressive dynamics. Typical Characteristics: Introduction of eighth notes, basic syncopation, simple key changes, and more varied dynamics. Minimum Performance Grade 1 Level
