Laveno Antique | Stoneware Serving Dish

A heavy earthenware dish for the everyday table — generous in scale, unhurried in character, the kind of object that improves a meal without announcing itself. Thick-bodied earthenware, beige glaze aged into a fine web of crazing — the glaze contracting over decades, not damage. Age has left each piece its own marbling; no two are identical. Smooth to the touch despite the visual texture. Stamped underneath by Società Ceramica Italiana. Three sizes: 34.5 cm, 40 cm and 44.5 cm. The house was founded at Laveno on Lake Maggiore and became one of Italy's principal earthenware producers, supplying households and restaurants into the twentieth century. The undermark, introduced in 1883, dates these dishes to somewhere between 1900 and 1940.
