What immediately sets this example apart is its exceptional faux-grained finish. Carefully hand-painted to imitate richly figured quarter-sawn oak, the decorative treatment was a highly skilled technique popular throughout the Netherlands during the 19th century. Remarkably well preserved, it gives the table warmth, depth and visual character that is seldom found today. Raised on elegant turned baluster legs joined by a classic H-form stretcher, the table possesses the sturdy proportions expected of a hardworking piece while maintaining a refined presence suitable for today's interiors.
