Parodia haselbergii

Parodia haselbergii is an attractive and distinctive cactus variety, characterised by its compact, rounded form and dense covering of fine white spines. The pale spination gives the plant an almost silvery appearance and creates excellent contrast when displayed alongside greener and more strongly spined cactus varieties. Native to southern Brazil, Parodia haselbergii generally remains compact, making it particularly suitable for windowsills, mixed cactus collections and smaller indoor plant displays. Mature plants can produce striking orange-red to red flowers around the crown, providing an additional seasonal selling point and an appealing contrast against the plant’s white spines. This species prefers a bright position with plenty of natural light, although some protection from intense midday summer sun is beneficial. A specialist, free-draining cactus compost is recommended. Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the compost to dry between waterings, and reduce watering considerably during autumn and winter. Protect from frost and prolonged cold or wet conditions. With its distinctive silvery-white appearance, compact growth habit and colourful flowers, Parodia haselbergii is an excellent addition to cactus assortments for garden centres and house plant shops. Its contrasting texture and colour make it particularly effective within mixed displays, while its manageable size and straightforward care requirements give it broad appeal to both new cactus owners and established collectors.
