FLUORITE

Marsanges mine at Langeac, Brioude, Haute-Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France started in the 1830s as an antimony mine but rapidly shifted to producing fluorspar, operating through until 1977. Well-known for the finest Fluorite specimens in Haute-Loire the mine has been worked more recently specifically for specimen production. Known for several different colours of Fluorite it is the perfectly colourless crystals that are the most desirable. That is exactly what this is, with clear, colourless, thin, square-shaped to rectangular Fluorite crystals developed in a linear fashion. The largest crystal, which sits at one end, reaches 1.8 x 1.5 cm by 0.4 to 0.6 cm thick.
