Socks 101 -DK weight

Learn to knit your first pair of socks! This class will take place over two 2-hour classes. You'll be introduced to sock yarns, sock construction and sock fit all while knitting a DK-weight sock with a short-row heel. For this class we will use two strands of fingering weight yarn held together or a single strand of DK weight yarn. Purchase light or bright colors. Shop yarn recommendations can be found below. Sock classes in 2026 will take a walk through ‘The Sock Project’ book by Summer Lee. This 'Socks 101' class will reference two patterns, one from the book and one from an alternative resource. Class Materials: Superwash DK weight OR sock weight yarn in one main color (MC). You will need up to 300 yards for shorty socks. An optional contrast color (CC) for the cuff, heel and toe requires 60 yards in the CC. It is highly recommended that you choose light or bright colors for this project. Black, dark navy or highly marled yarn will make it difficult to see your stitches. In addition, you will use stitch markers, a darning needle and a writing utensil. If you are familiar with the ‘magic loop’ method of knitting in the round, you have the option of using a 32” long circular needle in size US 3 (3.25mm) instead of the DP needles. Class prerequisites: This is a beginner friendly class, but it is not a class that teaches you how to knit. You must have experience with the knit stitch and purl stitch.
