Sashiko Decorative Mat [A]
This decorative mat is entirely covered with meticulous sashiko stitching on vintage Japanese textile. The motif is ganze-zashi (also known as uni-zashi) from Tobishima, Yamagata: the same motif as in design [B], here expressed in a subtle variation. The stitching is done in undyed thread, creating a gentle contrast against the dark indigo textile. Compared to stitching with indigo-dyed thread, this process gives a more integrated and softer appearance. The reverse side is made from vintage kaya (mosquito net) fabric, offering a soft and gentle feel. Each piece is one of a kind and completely handmade. Created by ITOTSUZURI, it reflects a thoughtful and enduring approach to making. It can be used as a table mat or displayed as a textile piece on the wall.
