Funfetti Vase | Handmade Stoneware Vase
Look closely. The white stoneware is not plain. Scattered through the clay are small fragments of colour, confetti of fired earth, salvaged from other pieces, other moments, other batches. Nothing is wasted. Everything is remembered. This is upcycling as a quiet act. Not a statement, not a label, just the honest logic of a maker who keeps what matters and finds a place for it. The coloured specks are not decoration. They are history, pressed into the body of something new. Born from stone and memory Part of the À Ras Bord series, Côte des Basques, 2026, this vase was born from a gesture at the edge of the everyday. A few days ago, at sunset, Cecile Mestelan placed ceramics on the limestone rocks of the Côte des Basques. Not in a gallery. Not on a white plinth. On stone, grey and ochre, streaked with minerals, shaped by years of pressure, water, and salt. The calcaire of the Basque Coast is an archive. Every vein of rust and white tells a slow transformation, the same transformation clay undergoes in fire. Placing these pieces on those rocks was an act of recognition. Ceramics are not foreign to the cliff. They are an accelerated version of it, carried by a hand. This series marks the beginning of a new phase in Cecile Mestelan's practice: more mature, more affirmed, more free. Each piece carries that moment with it. Every vase is unique The confetti varies from piece to piece, in colour, in density, in placement. No two are the same, because no two batches of offcuts are the same. What you receive is the only one of its kind. Material and care Material: White stoneware with coloured stoneware chips. Dimensions: 35 cm tall, 24 cm wide. Colour: White with colourful chips.
