2019 Plavac Premium, Skaramuca, Peijesac, Croatia
A rich and characterful Croatian red made from Plavac Mali, Croatia’s flagship indigenous grape variety, grown on the steep, sun-drenched slopes of the Pelješac Peninsula. Descended from Crljenak Kaštelanski and Dobričić, Plavac Mali thrives in the region’s rocky coastal vineyards, where intense sunshine and maritime influence produce wines of depth, warmth and concentration. Tasting Notes: Deep ruby red in colour with expressive aromas of ripe black cherry, plum and dark forest fruits, layered with hints of dried fig, Mediterranean herbs and sweet spice. The palate is full-bodied and generous, combining concentrated dark fruit with supple tannins and a subtle savoury edge. Rich yet balanced, the wine finishes long and warming with characteristic Dalmatian character. Winemaking: Produced from carefully selected Plavac Mali grapes grown on the demanding slopes of the Pelješac Peninsula, where poor rocky soils and low yields encourage intensity and concentration. Traditional vinification and careful maturation preserve the grape’s bold varietal identity while allowing the fruit and regional character to remain at the forefront. Food Pairing: An excellent partner for grilled meats, roast lamb and hearty Mediterranean dishes. It also pairs well with chargrilled vegetables, slow-cooked recipes and mature cheeses. ABV: 13%
